Yamaha XS750 and XS850

The Yamaha XS750 and XS850 were produced from 1976 to 1981 in the American market. The GX750 was the original model in Japan, the XS750 was the export model. They are referred to as “triples” as they have three cylinders. The original XS750 received glowing reviews in Cycle World magazine. It was known as being attractive, smooth running, comfortable, with a great exhaust note. The XS750 was produced from 1976-1979. The displacement was increased to 850cc for 1980-81 and became the XS850. The export market bikes all have cast aluminum wheels with disc brakes. Changes were made with each model year, including to the ignition systems, carburetors, colors, seats, and an oil cooler added to the XS850. Noted problems are failure of the second gear and vacuum operated petcock. The XS750 was rated at 64bhp @ 7,500 rpm, with a top speed of 106 mph.

The XS750 uses 35mm fork tubes, and the XS850 uses 36mm fork tubes.

Yamaha XS1100

The Yamaha XS1100 is a four cylinder bike produced from 1978 to 1981 in the American market, and was Yamaha’s first production entry into the “Superbike” category with over 1,000 cc’s. It was also known as the XS Eleven. The bike used dual overhead cams and four 34mm Mikuni carbs. It used a transistorized ignition with vacuum advance. The final drive on the bike was shaft to make it a highway touring motorcycle. The bike was equipped with dual disc brakes on the front and a single disc on the rear. When introduced, the bike was the first to run the quarter mile in under 12 seconds. The engine was smooth and the bike very comfortable to ride. It was very fast in a straight line, but handling was a challenge at speed. The XS1100 was rated at 95hp @ 8,000 rpm, with a top speed of 136 mph.

The XS1100 uses 37mm fork tubes.

Mikes XS is thrilled to begin carrying new motorcycle parts for both the Yamaha XS750, XS850, and XS1100.
