R5 RD250 RD350 RD400

Yamaha RD350

The Yamaha RD350 was built between 1973 and 1975 in the American market. RD350 (1973) came in dark green and brandy red, RD350A (1974) has a purple tank, and RD350B (1975) is orange and white. The reliable engine is two cylinder, two stroke and air cooled. All models were equipped with "Autolube" automatic oil injection, relieving the user from the need to mix gasoline with oil. Rim sizes are 18" WM2 (1.85") front and 18" WM3 (2.15"), both being of chromed, wire spoked steel construction. In the UK, rim sizes were 1.60 front and 1.85 rear. The front brake is a single disc, with a drum in the rear. The RD350 was fast, light, great in the twisties and often used for racing. It was also wheelie prone. It made 39 hp @ 7,500 rpm with a top speed of 95 mph. Base weight was 352 lb, with an MPG of 35-40. The period reviews of the bike were highly favorable, noting that with a few modifications it can blow away much bigger bikes. It has a reputation for being low maintenance, and has emerged as a classic collectible.

The R5 is the 350cc predecessor to the RD350, built from 1970 to 1972. The DS7 is the 250cc predecessor to the RD250, made in 1971 and 1972.
