Longtime Mikes XS customer Phil Riley has done it again! We have had the pleasure of being a part of these amazing Yamaha XS650 builds that Riley cranks out of his home state of Kansas.
This go-around, Phil used his talents to create a scrambler and a mono-shock street tracker.

The Scrambler
A scrambler motorcycle is a dual-purpose motorcycle that can be enjoyed on the street, as well as off-road. Fully equipped with the raised exhaust pipes and fenders, this scrambler definitely looks the part. The 653cc motor on this scrambler is truly flawless. The same ole’ bulletproof XS650 motor, re-built with impeccable style!

There is a ton of custom work to admire, like the fuel tank, scrambler-esque seat and infallible metalwork.

The Street Tracker
A street tracker motorcycle is a street-legal version of a flat track racing bike. These can be easily spotted by their upright configuration for the rider, as well as the tracker handlebars and tracker seat. An image of one Evil Knievel might come to mind…

Riley’s example takes it up a few notches. Just like the scrambler, this XS650 street tracker is dressed with pristine metalwork. The frame was powder-coated and the electrical components were cleaned up and hidden by a custom electronics box under the seat.

What really makes this XS650 unique is the implementation of the mono-shock! Mono-shock rear suspension for motorcycles was created in the late 1980s. They provide better handling and can subdue the heavy torque and vibrations that these Yamaha XS650s are known for. It looks pretty cool, too!
